SCM Class TF 130E Spindle Shaper with Powered Spindle Lifting

SCM Class TF 130E Spindle Shaper with Powered Spindle Lifting

$18,975.00

Drive the spindle to height and read the number. The TF 130E adds SCM’s powered operating unit with digital readouts to the Class fixed-spindle shaper, and it fits the “Fast” sectional table as standard rather than as an option:

  • Powered spindle movement with digital readout of working height
  • “Fast” sectional table standard, not optional
  • 11 HP (8 kW) three-phase motor; 15 HP optional
  • Fixed 1 1/4 in MK5 interchangeable spindle, 180 mm working length
  • Five speeds: 3,000 / 4,500 / 6,000 / 7,000 / 10,000 rpm
  • 1,200 x 730 mm (47.2 x 28.7 in) worktable

*Photos may include optional equipment.

Advertised Price Configuration:

  • 3ph, 11HP, fixed 1 1/4″ MK5 spindle, 5-speeds, powered lifting, aluminum fence w/ mechanical adjustments

SCM Class TF 130E Spindle Shaper

The E in TF 130E is the powered operating unit: instead of winding the spindle up to height by hand, you drive it from the machine and read the working height off a digital display. SCM lists that powered movement with digital readouts as standard on this model and does not offer it on the base TF 130. The “Fast” sectional table comes as standard here too. The sections below cover the powered unit, the spindle, what the Fast table changes, and where this machine sits against the rest of the Class range.

Powered Spindle Movement With Digital Readouts

SCM calls this feature “powered operating unit movement with digital readouts,” and it defines this variant. The tool-holder shaft height is both motor-driven and displayed. On the manual TF 130, that same movement comes from a hand wheel with a mechanical decimal readout, so what the E changes is the drive and the display, not whether you get a readout at all. Note that this readout reports the working height of the spindle; it is not the same as the fence-position readout, which is a separate mechanical system on the fence itself.

The Spindle Unit

The spindle sits in a large column made entirely of cast iron, while a cast-iron “cup” surrounds the spindle itself to keep shavings and sawdust away from the internal mechanical components. Five speeds come standard — 3,000, 4,500, 6,000, 7,000 and 10,000 rpm — which suit any type of machining, from profiling to molding to tenoning, while still allowing large-diameter tools to be fitted. The spindle is fixed rather than tilting, and it takes a 1 1/4 inch MK5 interchangeable unit with 180 mm (7 in) of working length.

  • Profiling tools up to 250 mm (9.8 in) in diameter
  • Tenoning tools up to 300 mm (11.8 in) in diameter
  • Spindle base projection of 92 mm (3.56 in) above the table

What the “Fast” Table Changes

On the base TF 130 the “Fast” sectional table with manual adjustment is an option; on the TF 130E, however, SCM fits it as standard. That has one consequence worth knowing before you order: with the Fast table in place, the largest tool that retracts under the worktable is 300 x 85 mm rather than the 320 x 85 mm the base machine allows. The worktable itself is unchanged at 1,200 x 730 mm.

Where the TF 130E Sits

All of these are Class shapers built around the same spindle unit, so the choice comes down to how the machine is driven and what it is set up to do. The Class TF 130 is the manual machine and the most open to options, and it keeps the larger 320 mm under-table clearance. The TF 130E trades that clearance for powered, digitally read spindle movement and the Fast table. The Class TF 130PS goes a different direction again, building a front sliding carriage, tenoning table and tenoning hood in as standard on a 1,080 x 760 mm table. And if the work needs angles rather than automation, the Class TI 120 is the one that tilts, 45 degrees either side of vertical.
