SuperMax Tools®

SuperMax Tools makes open-ended drum sanders and SuperBrush combination sanders for woodworking shops. Drum sanders run from the 16-32 (32″ in a double pass) through the 25-50 (50″ in a double pass) and into double-drum models at 25×2 and 37×2. The 13″ and 19-38 combination models take both a brush drum and an abrasive drum — swap heads for the operation you need. SuperBrush machines handle scuff sanding, sealer sanding, profile sanding, and wire brushing for texture — operations a drum sander doesn’t cover.

Open-Ended Drum Sanders

SuperMax drum sanders use an open-ended design — material feeds all the way through without restriction on one side, making double-pass sanding practical on wide stock. All drum models include INTELLISAND® Technology, which automatically adjusts conveyor speed based on load to prevent gouging, burning, and stock damage across varying grain densities. A precision-flattened steel conveyor bed, reinforced with four steel cross sections, guarantees flatness to less than .010″ across the width on all models.

The 16-32 sands 16″ in a single pass and up to 32″ in two, with a built-in digital readout for precise, repeatable thickness control. The 19-38 steps up to 19″ single and 38″ double pass. The 25-50 handles 25″ single or 50″ double pass and is available with an enclosed cabinet stand.

The 25×2 and 37×2 are double-drum machines that sand two abrasive grits in sequence in a single pass, cutting down total sanding time on high-volume work. The 13″ combination and 19-38 combination models include interchangeable brush and abrasive drum heads on the same chassis — both operations, one machine.

SuperBrush Sanders

SuperBrush machines use cylindrical brush drums instead of abrasive-wrapped drums. The brushes handle operations an abrasive drum sander isn’t designed for: scuff sanding and sealer sanding between finish coats, breaking sharp edges on machined parts, profile sanding on routed or molded shapes, and wire brushing to pull out soft grain and create textured surfaces on reclaimed or decorative wood. Available in single-brush and double-brush configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a SuperMax drum sander and a SuperBrush sander?
Drum sanders use abrasive-wrapped drums to remove material and refine surface flatness — the right tool for thickness sanding, abrasive planing, and raw wood finishing. SuperBrush sanders use cylindrical brush drums for sealer sanding, scuff sanding between coats, edge breaking, profile sanding, and wire brushing for texture. The combination models (13″ and 19-38) come with interchangeable drum and brush heads on the same chassis.

What does open-ended mean on a drum sander, and why does it matter?
Open-ended means the infeed and outfeed tables have no fence on one side, so you can flip and re-feed material to sand stock wider than the drum. A 16-32 sands up to 32″ wide in two passes; a 25-50 handles up to 50″. This makes a compact machine practical for wide cabinet panels and furniture parts without sizing the machine to your widest single piece.
