Ritter Drawer Clamps & Machines

This category covers two Ritter machines built for drawer production: the R885 pneumatic drawer box clamp, which squares and presses assembled drawer boxes up to 14″x24″x36″, and the R853 horizontal/vertical dowel drill, a 13-spindle boring machine for dowel joinery in drawer components. Both are American-made, ship free, and are built for production cabinet shops running consistent drawer sizes and volumes.

Ritter Drawer Clamps & Machines

Two Machines, One Workflow

The R853 Horizontal/Vertical Dowel Drill and the R885 Drawer Box Clamp cover the two production steps that define a dowel-joined drawer: boring the holes and pressing the box square. They work independently, but shops running dowel-construction drawers at volume will use both in sequence.

R885 Drawer Box Clamp

The R885 uses two 4-inch bore pneumatic cylinders to press drawer boxes square during assembly. Rigid square endplates keep equal pressure across the face of the box, and easy-adjust finger blocks keep the edge aligned parallel to the system. The clamp adjusts for box width and length, handles boxes up to 14″x24″x36″, and fits in a 40″x72″ floor footprint.

R853 Horizontal/Vertical Dowel Drill

The R853 is a 13-spindle boring machine built specifically for drawer box joinery. A foot-actuated cycle clamps the workpiece and fires all 13 spindles simultaneously, drilling 32mm-center holes for 5mm to 8mm dowels in one pass. The machine bores horizontally and vertically without a setup change, handles drawer box sides from 1/2″ to 3/4″ thick, and accepts a maximum drawer box height of 14″. Standard power is 3-phase 230V, with a single-phase 220V option available.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a drawer box clamp do?
A drawer box clamp holds all four sides of a drawer box square under pressure while the glue sets or joinery is driven. The R885 uses pneumatic cylinders to apply consistent clamping force so every box comes out square without manual adjustment.

Do I need both the R885 and the R853?
Not necessarily. The R885 clamps boxes during assembly and works with any joint type. The R853 is specifically for shops drilling dowel holes in drawer components. If you run dowel construction, you will likely use both in sequence. If you use dovetails or pocket screws, the R885 handles the clamping step on its own.
