SCM Class TI 145EP Tilting Spindle Shaper
The TI 145EP sits at the top of SCM’s Class shaper range, and the clearest way to read it is through SCM’s own standard-versus-option tables. The interchangeable spindle is standard here and an option on every other Class shaper, while the mechanically programmed fence and the sectional FAST worktable both arrive fitted rather than costing extra. The spindle also tilts half a degree further than SCM’s other tilting Class machines. The sections below cover the tilt, that standard equipment, the controls, and the full specifications.
Tilting 45.5 Degrees Each Way
The spindle tilts from -45.5° to +45.5°, a wider arc than the ±45° on SCM’s other tilting Class shapers, the TI 120 and TI 120E. The TF-series machines do not tilt at all. It carries a 1 1/4 inch MK5 interchangeable spindle with 180 mm (7 in) of working length, and the spindle base projects 62 mm (2.44 in) above the table. Five speeds cover the range from profiling to tenoning.
- Five spindle speeds: 3,000 / 4,500 / 6,000 / 7,000 / 10,000 rpm
- Max profiling tool: 250 mm in diameter
- Max tenoning tool: 300 mm in diameter
- Max tool retractable under the worktable: 300 × 43 mm (11.75 × 1.69 in)
What Comes Standard
SCM’s Class range brochure sets out exactly what is fitted on each machine, and three items are worth calling out here:
- The interchangeable spindle. This is the one item the brochure marks standard on the TI 145EP and optional on every other Class shaper.
- The mechanically programmed shaper fence, adjusted by hand wheels from the front of the machine and carrying a mechanical readout. It is standard across SCM’s electronically controlled shapers — this machine, the TI 120E and the TF 130E — while the manual TF 130, TF 130PS and TI 120 take it as an option.
- The “FAST” sectional worktable is standard here and on the TF 130E, an option on the TF 130, and not offered at all on the TI 120E, TF 130PS or TI 120. SCM’s stated reason for it is support close to the tool: it “provides support for the workpiece being machined as it is close to the tool, allowing the adjustment with mounted tools.”
The spindle also arrives with presetting for the “T-SET” rapid tool locking system, although the T-SET device itself remains an option.
Controls
eye-S console. The new control panel, with its attractive design, allows easy and intuitive machine programming, combining the 10” color touch-screen display and the Maestro active user interface.
- connectivity among machines belonging to the same company network and 4.0 Industry preset
- sharing of work programs and tools database
- activity monitoring and reporting on the use of the machine
- self-diagnosis, tele-service and link to troubleshooting
