SCM Nova SI 4K EP Sliding Table Saw
A programmable rip fence solves half the setup problem. The other half is the blade itself: every time you change the angle, the height changes with it, and someone has to work out the new number and crank it in. The SI 4K EP puts all three movements under the control panel, so you enter a bevel cut rather than calculate it. The sections below cover what the third axis actually saves you, how the EP compares to the R, the dado capability, and the carriage SCM guarantees for ten years.
Three Axes: Fence, Tilt, and Height
The EP carries SCM’s READY 3 UP control, which drives three programmable axes from a mobile control panel:
- Rip fence — powered positioning on recirculating ball screws with encoder readout
- Blade tilt — powered, entered as an angle
- Blade height — powered, with tool data stored so the machine adjusts height automatically for the blade angle you set
That last point is the one that matters day to day. On a manually adjusted saw, tilting the blade changes the effective cutting height, and the operator compensates by hand. The EP knows the tool dimensions and corrects for the angle itself, which takes the arithmetic out of angled work. It stores up to 99 programs and positions in the same three modes as the rest of the range: continuous, incremental, or automatic.
EP or R: Which One You Need
The EP and the Nova SI 4K R are the same saw underneath, with the same carriage, blade capacity, and scoring unit. The difference is how much of the setup is automated. The R automates the rip fence alone, which covers a shop cutting mostly square. The EP adds powered tilt and height, which pays off in shops doing angled and beveled work often enough that manual blade setups are a real part of the day. If your cuts are overwhelmingly 90 degrees, the R will not hold you back.
A Dado-Capable European Slider
European sliding table saws rarely offer dado capability. The SI 4K EP ships with SCM’s DADO SET capability built in: the arbor accepts a dado tool up to 200 mm (7.8 in) in diameter and 19 mm (0.69 in) wide in place of the main blade. For cabinet shops cutting grooves and rabbets the American way, that removes the usual compromise of keeping a second saw around just for dados.
The Nova Carriage and Scoring Unit
The anodized aluminum carriage rides on mechanically fixed, hardened steel guides, with a closed lattice cross-section built for rigidity and minimal flex. SCM guarantees the carriage sliding system for ten years, and it locks at any point along its travel. An independent powered scoring unit, with its own 1 HP motor and front-of-machine adjustments, leaves a clean underside on veneered panels. The saw ships with a 315 mm main blade and 120 mm scoring blade, accepts main blades to 400 mm (15.75 in), squares 3,200 x 3,200 mm, and rips to 1,270 mm (50 in).
