The FEED 4i is the variable-speed member of SCM’s formula feeder family. Whereas the FEED 32 and FEED 48 step through fixed speeds, this one runs anywhere between 2 and 22 m/min on an inverter drive, selected digitally. It also pairs with L’Invincibile shapers, and that pairing is electrical rather than a matter of fit. The sections below cover the drive, feeder power, the roller head, and full specifications.
Continuously Variable Feed
The inverter drives a three-phase motor and gives a continuous range from 2 to 22 m/min (6.6 to 72 ft/min), so the feed rate is set to the cut rather than to the nearest available step. SCM also makes a second claim for the inverter: against a feeder of comparable size and output, it reduces power draw by 50 percent. You choose the speed with a digital selector.
Where the Power Comes From
This is the part worth understanding before you order, because it works differently from a standalone feeder. SCM lists “Electric presetting for feeder support (400V)” as standard equipment on its L’Invincibile shapers, including the TI 7 and the TF 5. The feeder takes its 400 V from that presetting on the machine it is mounted to, not from a separate 400 V circuit in your shop.
The shaper, meanwhile, runs on ordinary three-phase shop power. SCM’s own note on the TI 7 reads: “The machine is 400V. This configuration includes an autotransformer 220V – 400V.” The autotransformer is a listed order code on those machines, so the 400 V exists inside the machine while the supply you wire to it is 220 V three-phase.
- You do not need a separate 400 V circuit for the feeder. The host shaper supplies it. SCM requires its own installation on these shapers, so the connection is included in that work.
- The host shaper takes 220 V three-phase through its autotransformer.
- Pairing matters. The 400 V L’Invincibile machines take the FEED 4i; 220 V machines such as the Class TI 120 and Nova TF 110 take the FEED 48 instead.
Roller Head and Support
The head carries four rollers, 120 mm in diameter and 60 mm wide, the same size as the FEED 48 uses, with 18 mm of excursion. The wheels sit on high-stroke springs so the head follows variation in the stock, and SCM notes they can be changed without special tools. The support arm is rigid and adjustable in all directions.
