SCM Nova SI 4 Sliding Table Saw
The SI 4 is where SCM’s Nova range shifts from a light-duty slider to a production saw. It runs on three-phase power, drives a 400 mm blade with an 8 HP motor, and carries a scoring unit with twice the motor power of the machines below it. The sections below cover what the extra mass buys you, how it compares to the SI 4K, and the numbers that decide whether it fits your work.
Built Heavier Than the 4K
The SI 4 and the Nova SI 4K look like siblings, and they share the ten-year carriage guarantee and the 50-inch rip capacity. The differences are all in the iron and the power:
- 1,770 lb shipping weight against the 4K’s 1,409 lb
- 8 HP three-phase main motor against 5.5 HP single-phase
- 2 HP scoring motor against 1 HP
- 140 mm (5.5 in) of cut at 90 degrees against 136 mm
- 1,040 x 630 mm worktable against 1,000 x 560 mm
None of those alone is dramatic. Together they describe a machine built to run all day rather than several times a week, and the three-phase requirement is the practical dividing line: if your shop has three-phase service, the SI 4 is the more capable machine at a modest step up in price.
The Scoring Unit Does Real Work
A 2 HP independent scoring unit turning at 8,500 rpm is a serious piece of equipment on a saw this size, and it is what keeps the underside of veneered panels clean when the machine is cutting continuously. Vertical and horizontal adjustments are made on knobs at the front of the machine, so dialing the scorer in does not mean reaching around the saw.
Carriage and Capacity
The anodized aluminum carriage rides mechanically fixed, hardened steel guides with a closed lattice cross-section, locks at any point along its travel, and is guaranteed by SCM for ten years. It squares 3,200 x 3,200 mm, a full 10.5-foot stroke in both directions, and the parallel fence rips to 1,270 mm (50 in). The blade tilts from 90 to 46 degrees and turns at 3,700 rpm.
If You Prefer Automated Setup
The SI 4 sets blade height, tilt and rip width by hand. The Nova SI 4 EP is the same machine with a bigger 11 HP motor, a three-speed blade drive, and SCM’s READY 3 UP control, which powers all three movements from a panel.
