SCM aims the TW 45C at D.I.Y. woodworkers and craftsmen, emphasizing ease of use and versatility. It is a fixed-spindle machine, and the sliding table is built in rather than an add-on. Although this is the entry point of our SCM shaper range, the construction is not entry-level: the spindle unit is cast iron, and the base is single-block steel. The sections below cover that unit, the sliding table, the fence, and the options SCM offers on top.
Cast-Iron Spindle Unit
SCM states that the cast-iron unit provides stability and rigidity in every working condition, supported by a sturdy single-block steel base. A cast-iron “cup” closes off the unit so that sawdust, shavings, and dirt stay away from the mechanical components inside the machine. The spindle is fixed rather than tilting, and it runs a 32 mm (1 1/4 in) shaft with 100 mm (3.94 in) of useful length.

The 270 mm Sliding Table
The sliding table is part of the machine rather than an accessory, and it provides greater support, which is also useful for tenoning. Construction is extruded anodized aluminum in a closed honeycomb structure, which SCM specifies for maximum rigidity and sturdiness. The table runs on a slide-way system of calibrated, hardened F550 SX steel guides. The support table also carries an angular profiling device with excludable stops, which SCM notes is useful for small workpieces too.
Fence and Extraction
The fence is set up for precise, safe work: it adjusts micrometrically and comes complete with vertical and horizontal pressers. Extraction leaves the machine through a 120 mm (4.75 in) outlet.
Options SCM Offers
Two additions are worth knowing about, since neither is part of the machine as we quote it:
- Spindle moulder hood that adjusts its guides by rack and carries a mechanical digital readout. SCM notes a memory system, so you can remove and reposition the hood without losing the machining position. With this hood fitted, the maximum tool diameter during moulding rises to 240 mm.
- Support frame with telescopic fence, which SCM offers for precise cutting on large workpieces.
