## SCM STARTECH 27 Multi-Spindle Boring Machine

Twenty-seven spindles on 32 mm centers, and a head that swings between vertical, 45 degrees, and horizontal on air. The STARTECH 27 is the larger of the two manual boring machines in our SCM lineup, stepping up from the 21-spindle AD 21 with more spindles, more motor, and three-phase power. ### The Head

The drilling head carries 27 spindles at 32 mm spacing and rotates pneumatically, with reference stops at 0, 45 and 90 degrees, which allows an immediate changeover between operations. Each of the 27 spindles is preset for a quick-change chuck, allowing fast setup and comfortable, instant bit changes.

The hand wheel sets height against a mechanical decimal readout, and the head strokes up to a 70-mm depth.

### Depth Control

Depth is set on a five-position revolving turret anywhere from 0 to 60 mm. SCM includes a device on that turret that automatically changes the depth between vertical and horizontal work to prevent panel chipping.

By using the panel’s visible outer face as a drilling reference, the machine ensures perfectly flush exterior joints, pushing any natural variations in wood thickness safely out of sight to the cabinet interior.

### What This Build Adds

SCM sells the STARTECH 27 with a long list of options, and the configuration we quote already carries several of them:

- **Servo-assisted down-stroke** speed adjustment
- **A 45-degree fence** for horizontal boring at an angle
- **A supplementary top pressure cylinder**, so this build holds work with three rather than the standard two
- **A device for narrow workpieces**
- **A second set of 10 mm bit-holder bushings**

Standard on every machine, and included here: a 3,000 mm lateral fence with retractable stops, adjustable cast-iron side guides with a metric rule, dust extraction built into the boring head, and a compass device.
